Wine Of The Month - Muller Thurgau
|
| Dr. Muller of Thurgau created this grape in the late 19yh century with the intention of combining the intensity and complexity of the Riesling grape with the ability to ripen earlier in the season that the Silvaner possesses. Although the grape did not entirely attain these two qualities, by the mid 1970's Muller Thurgau became Germany's most planted grape. This is credited to the grapes's ability of being grown in a wide range of climates and soil types. It is an attractive grape for both grape growers, for its ability to ripen early and avoid and damage from early or late frost and for the winemaker because of it's attractive flavours and balance. It produce wines that smooth, low acid, off dry with a hint of Muscat character. The perfect easy drinking wine to enjoy with family and friends. |
